Marc Jacobs: The Treachery of Marc Jacobs

Surrealist art evoked the unconscious mind and embraced the dangerous; despite my tremendous respect and adoration for Magritte, Ernst, Dali, and Miro, surrealism in fashion only horrifies me. Did Marc Jacobs dream this up in rehab? Or did he believe that by imitating geniuses he would somehow become one? Art-inspired clothes can be intriguing if the translation isn't too literal. Otherwise, the result is kitsch without inspiration. Magritte would agree: This is not a shoe.
