Afghan and Aliens

Blouse: 3.1 Philip Lim
Pants: Vena Cava for Gap
Cuff: Hermes
Bag and Wedges: Fendi

For quality Afghan food in a cozy, homey setting, my husband and I like to go to Bamiyan, located on 3rd and 26th in Murray Hill. While it's great for dinner, it's even better for lunch (a mere $21.95 for a hearty meal for two).

The mosaic walls and carved wooden door

The richly decorated bar and part of the restaurant

Shir-Chay: This wondrous concoction of milk tea with sugar, cardamom, and rose petals is my favorite kind of tea. I could live on this!

Kadu: Pumpkin Turnovers with Yogurt Dip (although this is an appetizer, it tastes like a dessert...yum...)

Mantoo: Steamed Meat Dumplings with Yogurt and Meat Sauce

Sib Chalow with Chicken: Tender boneless chicken breast with fresh apple slices, split peas, and cinnamon: this entree has a hint of sweetness

After enjoying our early dinner, we watched District 9, Peter Jackson's most recent sci-fi movie about aliens in Johannesburg, South Africa. A die-hard sci-fi lover, I was initially hesitant about this movie, but it did not disappoint. A. O. Scott's cogent review does retell most of the movie's plot, but his last line certainly captures the heart of the movie: "It suggests that sometimes the only way to become fully human is to be completely alienated." The movie is more than an action-packed sci-fi thriller (although it certainly is that); it explores humanity's savagery (with historical undercurrents of apartheid and xenophobia) and possible redemption. Using aliens as a metaphor, District 9 is really a movie about mankind.

Hi sweetie,
how are you today? I hope you'll spend a wonderful and sunny Sunday!
(Good morning to you!)

Your outfit is very cool and chic! I was thinking of you yesterday when I prepared for a night out at a friend's birthday party. But instead of wearing several cuffs + bracelts I chose the xl version of Whiting and Davis silver snake bracelet :)
The evening was great fun. We went to an Italian restaurant with 24 people, sitting on a long table and it was somehow like "musical chairs", everybody switched the seat with another one, so there was a of chat and laughter everywhere :)

I LOVE every kind of Arabic food, also Afghan + Libanese food!
At the moment I eat it two-three times a week.... Very healthy, very delicious and very tasty and yummy! Funny coincidence - I love Shir-Chay, too!
The sib chalow with chicken looks soooooo YUMMY! Aahhhhhhhhhhh!!!! :-D
Great to hear about your view about District 9 (hardcore sci-fi lover, too), I was getting curious about it... Thanks for the link, too!

Adeliet did a great posting with a short film which fits into it somehow (no sci-fi, about life and mankind). I loved the short film and saved it.

Wishing you a great day today, dear!

Once again, how very stylish and classy, as always!

I love the top and it's perfect with those fun pants! Oh and can't help but notice those Hermes cuffs. They're really very versatile, aren't they? ...Last time with the dress and now with jeans!

I've never tried Afghan food before, mainly because I don't know what to expect there. But now, I think I will! And I do love my tea, appetizer and mains sweet so I think I'll have a new favorite cuisine soon here!

Have a good week ahead, Thumbelina!

Mwaaaah!! =)

Hi there! Those pants are interesting! And love the shoulders of that top.

The hubby and I went to an Afghan resto as well this weekend! We were gonna go for District 9 as well but decided to enjoy the outdoors instead.

Have a nice Sunday eve!

Dear Thumbelina Fashionista,

It's been sometime since we last spoke and you bestowed your wise wisdom upon me and a certain semi-indian classmate. I never got to thank you for that recc you wrote on my behalf, you were nowhere to be found when the next school year rolled around.Anyway, I guess you really do have a way with words as I'll be a sophomore at Brown in the fall thanks in part to you. I would love to catch up sometime, maybe for a cup of coffee before I leave at the end of august. I couldn't figure out how to get in touch with you until I remembered this little gem, and viola! there you were, perfect grammar and all. My email address is below so feel free to contact me if you have the time! hope all is well. Stay fashionable as always.

Hey Thumbie! : )

I love that youi're showing restaurants, as well as fashion. (I swear, I would if I hadn't locked myself into 'streetstyle' and have already reserved a 'lifestyle' blog for when I've got time). I've always loved shooting & stylihg food. Do you know a thai restaurant in NY called Toons? My brother was raving about it.

I love Afghan food by the way. There used to be a great place near my apt on the upper east side, ages ago.

Don't think I'm coming in to the city this trip - the heat wave has tipped the scales for me. Altho, my husband's coming in Thursday, the day before we leave. If by any chance I do, I'll let you know as I'd love to see you & Lynn but we come here a lot (I lived in NY before London).

Hope you're staying cool! We'll meet one of these days..

The pants look great on you. I like that even when you're not wearing one of your trademark belts, you have a belt-like effect!
