A friend suggested that I post about my regular haunts in Chinatown. My husband and I absolutely adore Yeah Shanghai Deluxe, an unassuming gem tucked away on Bayard Street.
Making soup dumplings in the storefront window
Crab soup dumplings, or xiaolongbao, miraculously contain hot delicious soup in their core. Lightly sprinkle one with the ginger soy sauce dip, place this ball of goodness on your spoon, take a small bite out of the top, and sip the soup before you enjoy the yummy crab meat and chewy dough. (If you don't like crab, they have a pork version that's equally popular.)
Crabs in brown sauce with edamame and rice cakes. I'm a huge seafood lover, and crabs hold a special place in my gustatory heart.

Sacre bleu! What is this?

Sacre bleu! What is this?
How on earth could I miss
Such a sweet little succulent crab
Quel dommage. What a loss
Here we go in the sauce
Now some flour, I think just a dab
Now I stuff you with bread
It don't hurt cause you're dead
And you're certainly lucky you are
'Cause it's gonna be hot
In my big silver pot
Tootle-loo, mon poison, au revoir!

Oh, Thumbelina, that was such a generous comment, thank you.
I love the way information, ideas, inspiration, spreads thru the blogosphere - and no one owns it! That was my whole point.
Speaking of ideas... yes, crab holds a place in my heart, too. I think of it as such a luxurious food item, more than lobster, caviar, or oysters.. I invented years ago, a dish that while being made of all Italian ingredients, somehow ends up light & oriental: linguine or angel hair pasta with a light sauce of thinly sliced zucchini, lemon zest, a touch of garlic, tiny bit o fresh red chili, a little pasta water, it simmers for a moment, and then you toss with a splash of cream, sprinkle with fresh basil, and a dollop of tinned or fresh crab meat on top. It's summery.. it's heaven!
Love your outfit, by the way! The mustard Fendi bag with just the right shade of red, burgundy.
Next time I'm in NY, let's go to Chinatown! xxx

Hello biker chic! Love the pairing of shiny leather jacket and boots! And that yummy Fendi B-bag! Awesomeness! I loveeee xiaolongbaos too and la mian!!! I basically just love any Chinese cuisine, lol. I'm glad to know more and more about you, especially your preference in food! Thanks for posting and sharing!
Love, Adela
I miss your outfit postings, yippee for this! Love the contrast of the deep burgundy sweater against the rest of black ensemble. Plus the sweater looks like it's a scarf too, how cool!
